Lost Rights (book review)

Posted: March 6th, 2006 by Militant Libertarian

I really shouldn’t read books like this. All they do is piss me off. I should stick to mythology and historical writing. That sooths me. Political stuff, especially expose’s like this one, just boil my blood and make me want to do things that only red headed people can think about doing…things involving death and mayhem.

Anyway, this book is a little dated since it was published about ten years ago. That aside, though, the information is highly relevant and things have only gotten worse since this book’s printing…

I’ve been a fan of James Bovard since reading Terrorism and Tyranny a couple of years ago. While he may not be a pure libertarian, he is at least a limited government Republican. I’ll take that over a neocon or a socialist Democrat any day.

In this book, you’ll find out not just how the federal (and many state) government can’t do anything right, no matter how much money is thrown at the problem, but you’ll find out how they rape the Bill of Rights and thoroughly sodomize your rights in the process. All in the name of “helping,” of course.

You’ll learn about the Public Education farce, the Farm Subsidies Ripoff, Eminent Domain through environmental legislation, and more. All with facts and real information to back it up, not just editorialized rants.

In fact, it’s those facts (say that twice really fast) that really get you worked up. I mean, I read editorial commentary all the time and it gets pretty blah, blah, blah-ish after a while. Even from the best of writers. But editorializing coupled with hard facts… That will make your neck red and your eyes bulge.

Like I said, I really shouldn’t read stuff like this. It makes me think about swords and kilts and bagpipes and the slaughter of my enemies…
