Up in the Great White North where they export snow and moose meat, the cops aren’t much better than they are here in the Lower 48. According to them, the brutal violence enacted upon an elderly man who stumbled into a marijuana growing operation were a sign of marijuana’s evil.
“..because of its monetary value as a commodity, marijuana is inextricably tied to serious acts of violence,” said Corporal Peter DeVries of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
“When you smoke a joint there is a strong likelihood that aside from it being grown illegally, it is connected to crimes like assaults, frauds, thefts and burglaries,” he continued.
Note the total lack of insight here. The Corporal can draw the line between the criminals who currently grow marijuana and their crimes, but cannot seem to grasp the fact that “crime” is a product of the state. If anything, the assault on the 67-year-old in his own neighborhood is proof that the War on (some) Drugs is a failure and the unintended consequences of the outlawing of a harmless plant is to create incentive for people to do harm in order to produce or acquire it.
The Mountie seems to be unable to understand that the violence attached to cannabis is entirely because of his enforcement of baseless laws his own government has created. Like our own Hillary Clinton, the Corporal can’t seem to fathom basic economics outside of his propaganda goggles.
