Rethinking Paradigms

Beltaine’s Fire – Anarchitecture

Beltaine’s Fire is a hip-hop Celtic band from Oakland, California. I think the lead singer describes himself as a rapper, but I’m a white guy, so “rap” and “hip hop” are the same damn thing to me.

Anyway, their music is a little bit jazz, a little bit Celtic, and the lyrics are all rap. Their latest album is Anarchitecture, which released last month. I’ve been listening to it for the past two or three weeks and it’s grown on me. The first song on the album made me think I really wouldn’t like this stuff, but by the time I’d listened through to A Brand New Mask, I was hooked. I parted with $8 to buy the download.

This, it turns out, is their third album and there are a handful of YouTube vids from live performances and the below video for the song “Liberty”, the title track from their second album.

In the end, there are few things for me to dislike about this band. Having listened to this album through several times, I can say, not only did I buy it, but I listen to it regularly.

Very good stuff and worth checking out. You can find them on Facebook, on their website, or on Basecamp.
