The hit man hired by northern Idaho attorney Edgar J. Steele to kill his wife in June 2010 has been released from federal custody. The Coeur d’Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/KxmX6P ) 51-year-old Larry Fairfax of Sagle served nearly two years of a 27-month sentence after pleading guilty to charges that alleged he built a pipe bomb and put it under Cyndi Steele’s car. He was released from federal custody Thursday.

Fairfax became a federal informant, recorded his conversations with Steele and testified at his trial. However, Fairfax didn’t tell authorities he had already placed the pipe bomb on the car until it was discovered during an oil change.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons says Fairfax was released from prison to a halfway house on Feb. 2 and moved to home confinement on April 18.
