GOP Plans Attempt to Change Electoral Vote System Politicalwire.com
“Republicans alarmed at the apparent challenges they face in winning the White House are preparing an all-out assault on the Electoral College system in critical states, an initiative that would significantly ease the party’s path to the Oval Office,” National Journal reports.
“Senior Republicans say they will try to leverage their party’s majorities in Democratic-leaning states in an effort to end the winner-take-all system of awarding electoral votes. Bills that will be introduced in several Democratic states would award electoral votes on a proportional basis.“
“Already, two states — Maine and Nebraska — award an electoral vote to the winner of each congressional district… But if more reliably blue states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin were to award their electoral votes proportionally, Republicans would be able to eat into what has become a deep Democratic advantage.”
Is this not a hoot? This is the same Republican Party that used Winner Take All Rules in the primary to knockout and disenfranchise Ron Paul and the Ron Paul delegates. Now the GOP wants to utilize its state GOP legislative powers to go proportional in general elections, through not proportional in Republican primaries!
This is also the same GOP that changed its rules at the RNC Convention to make ALL elected delegate selections subordinate to an RNC Committee approval of 10-12 elitist GOP party hacks. Supposedly, the entire purpose of a primary is for We the People to vote on candidates and nominate delegates. The Republican Party has once again proven that We the People don’t matter when it comes to Republican primaries.
I’m totally in favor of ending ALL Winner Take All Rules because they substantially weaken We the People power. The Republican Party selectively picks and chooses the rule and laws it wants to guarantee that their hand picked elites will prevail.
